Yomogi steam vs. sauna: what’s the difference?

Prague loves its wellness: saunas, whirlpools, private spa rooms rented by the hour. So a common question we hear is simple — is yomogi steam just another sauna? Not really. Here is how they compare.

Temperature and intensity

A Finnish sauna typically heats the air of the room to 80–100 °C. You sweat quickly, cool down, and repeat. Yomogi steam is far gentler. The steam rises from a pot of simmering herb beneath a hinoki chair, and a cape keeps the warmth close to your body. The air around your head stays comfortable, so you can breathe slowly and simply sit.

Duration

A sauna visit often means several rounds over one or two hours. The YOMO steam itself lasts about fifteen minutes, inside a 60-minute ritual that includes welcome tea, changing into the cape, and time to rest afterwards.

Privacy

Public saunas are shared spaces. Private wellness rooms in Prague are popular for exactly that reason. At YOMO every guest has a private room with a closed door — you never share the steam with strangers. Couples and friends can book the ritual for two.

The herb

A sauna is about heat. Yomogi steam is about one plant: 100% pure Japanese yomogi (mugwort), edible-grade and pesticide-free. Its soft, earthy scent is a large part of the experience and is what makes the ritual distinctly Japanese.
